What is IOSH?

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is the Chartered body for health and safety professionals. With more than 40,000 individual members, IOSH is the biggest professional health and safety organization in the world.

What is NEBOSH?

NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) was formed in 1979 as an independent examining board and awarding body with charitable status. They offer a comprehensive range of globally-recognized, vocationally related qualifications designed to meet the health, safety, environmental and risk management needs of all places of work in both the private and public sectors.

Courses leading to NEBOSH qualifications attract around 35,000 candidates annually. NEBOSH qualifications are recognized by the relevant professional membership bodies including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

Is there any third party between SBS and NEBOSH??

SBS does not offer NEBOSH courses with any one’s collaboration/association. SBS is a directly accredited training provider for IGC and IOG of NEBOSH, UK.

Is SBS certified from NEBOSH/IOSH?

Yes, SBS was Pakistan’s first ever organization to be directly approved/accredited by NEBOSH & IOSH for the delivery of their qualifications. What is Managing Safely?

Managing Safely (Version 5.0) is a course offered by IOSH. It is for managers and supervisors in any sector, and any organization. It’s designed to get managers up to speed on the practical actions they need to take to handle health and safety in their teams. Managing safely won’t turn delegates into safety experts – but it will give them the knowledge and tools to tackle the health and safety issues they’re responsible for. Importantly, it brings home just why health and safety is such an essential part of their job.

What is IGC?

The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is a globally recognized qualification offered by an established independent UK examination board with over 30 years’ experience in providing health and safety awards in the UK and across the world including the Middle East, the West Indies and Southeast Asia.

This qualification is for managers, supervisors and employees based outside the UK who require a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices. The qualification focuses on international standards and management systems, enabling candidates to effectively discharge workplace health and safety responsibilities in any employment sector, in all parts of the world.

The NEBOSH International General Certificate is also suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety, providing a sound basis for progression on to the NEBOSH International Diploma.

What is IOG?

This new qualification is designed specifically for those with safety responsibilities in the oil and gas industry. The qualification focuses on international standards and management systems, enabling students to effectively discharge workplace safety responsibilities both onshore and offshore.The certificate also highlights the importance of process safety management in the oil and gas industry.

In which level do NEBOSH IGC & IOSH MS fall?

  • NEBOSH IGC is a level 3 qualification.
  • IOSH MS is a level 2 qualification.

What is the scope of NEBOSH IGC in Pakistan?

NEBOSH IGC is a market demanded and market leader course of Health & Safety which really extend your strengths and value in the market of this field. It helps you out to find new jobs in Pakistan and middle east/gulf countries as well.

Does SBS offer NEBOSH Diploma?

SBS does not offer NEBOSH Diploma. SBS is accredited for 2 qualifications of NEBOSH i.e. International General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (IGC) & International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety (IOG).

What are the course contents of IOG?

The NEBOSH Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety covers the principles of process safety management in the oil and gas industries. The syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international industry standards.

The course covers:

  3. Fire protection and emergency response

What is the duration for IOSH Managing Safely course?

The duration for IOSH Managing Safely course is 3 days and timings are 09:00am to 06:00pm.

What is the duration for NEBOSH IGC course?

Course duration includes 10 days classes + 2 days for exams and class timings are 09:00am to 06:00pm.

What is the duration for NEBOSH IOG course?

IOG course duration is 5 days of classes + 1 day for exam  and class timings are 09:00am to 06:00pm.

Are 3 days enough for the preparation of IOSH MS?

According to IOSH, this course can be delivered over 3, 4 or 5 days and a minimum of 24 hours of face-to-face contact is required which is completed in 3 days of 8 taught hours each.

Are 10 days enough for the preparation of NEBOSH IGC?

According to NEBOSH, 80 taught hours are required for NEBOSH IGC course so this duration is completed in 10 days classes of 8 taught hours each. Moreover, 53 hours of private study and back ground reading should be included.

Does SBS offer e-learning/distant learning?

Currently SBS offers only NEBOSH IGC through distance learning.

Course Assessments & Certificates

Who conduct NEBOSH IGC & IOG/IOSH MS exams?

NEBOSH exams are conducted by British Council. Exam of IOSH MS is conducted in house.

Does SBS provide its own certificates for NEBOSH & IOSH MS?

As SBS is an approved training provider of IOSH & NEBOSH, certificates of NEBOSH & IOSH courses are issued by these bodies. SBS provides its certificates for its own/non accredited qualifications.

How IOSH MS is assessed?

This course is assessed by an exam of 1 hour on the last day of training plus a project report is to be completed as home assignment and submitted within 1 week after the exam.

Do all candidates receive IOSH MS certificate after training?

For successfully completing the qualification and be able to get certificate, candidate must achieve:

  1. At least 36 out of 60 on the multi-format assessment paper.
  2. At least 23 out of 38 on the project.
  3. Overall 60 marks required to get Managing Safely certificate.

What if someone fail in the exam or project report of IOSH MS?

For the candidates not clearing their exam or report, re sit will be arranged.

How is NEBOSH IGC assessed and what are the criteria to get certificate?

This qualification is assessed by two papers for IGC 1 & IGC 2. Each paper is of two hours and contains one long question (20 marks) and ten short questions (8 marks each). IGC 3 is a practical application report. It consists of one written safety inspection which can be done on candidate’s own workplace.

All three units, IGC 1, IGC 2 and IGC 3 need to be passed within a five year period for an award to be made. Certificate is awarded by NEBOSH itself.

Pass Marks:

  1. IGC1 and GC2 – 45% each for a pass
  2. GC3 – 60% for a pass

The level of award is made by adding the marks from each unit. These levels are as below:

–  150 to 179 = Pass
–  180 to 209 = Credit
–  210 or above = Distinction

What if someone fail in NEBOSH IGC?

If a candidate doesn’t pass a unit, he/she can take it again within 5 year of the first successful unit (conditions apply).

How is NEBOSH IOG assessed?

Candidates are assessed by a 2 hour written assessment.

When do the candidates receive NEBOSH result notification and certificates?

Result of NEBOSH qualifications is notified after 40 working days of exam sitting. After result notification, it takes further 40 working days to receive certificates.


What are the pre-requisites of IOSH MS?

There are no official pre-requisites for this qualification.

What are the pre-requisites for NEBOSH IGC?

There are no official prerequisites for this qualification. However, this qualification is more beneficial for delegates with prior experience in health and safety.

What are the pre-requisites for NEBOSH IOG?

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification. However, this qualification is more beneficial for delegates with engineering background and prior experience in the process industry.

English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS Band 6 is desirable.

The fee covers one time registration with SBS & IOSH, tuition fee, 3 days refreshment cost, material cost, administrative cost &certification charges

What are the possible modes for the payment of course fee?

Fee payment can be made through cheque, online transfer / deposit or Demand Drafting favor of ‘Sustainable Business Solutions’.

Can I get installments? if yes, how many?

Maximum two installments are offered only for NEBOSH courses. Candidate needs to deposit 50% of total fee at the time of registration before the registration deadline and remaining 50% should be paid by committed date which must be before the last day of classes.

All of our trainers are very well qualified while most of them have studied overseas. They are working professionals with hands-on experience in their areas of interest and they are approved trainers from the relevant organizations.

Does SBS provided accommodation to candidates?

SBS does not provide accommodation. Its candidates own responsibility to arrange for his/her accommodation as course charges does not include the charges for accommodation.
